The Biblical accounts from the Book of Genesis relates to people living up to 900 years or more.

Methuselah seems to be the record holder at 969 years. Adam lived 930 years and his son Seth 912 years. Genesis also mentions that Noah was about 500 years old when his sons were born. Noah was later put in charge of building the Ark at the age of 600 years old. It seems that Noah not only lived a very long life but was physically fit and stayed biologically young throughout his exceptional life span of 900 years. This seems totally impossible. Some scientific explanations of prolonged life in biblical times, was the existence of increased quantities of carbon dioxide and a much richer supply of oxygen to breathe. There might have been a canopy around the Earth that protected people from harmful radiation. It seems that people in biblical times had much less intake of food with a diet of just fruit, vegetables, grains and acorns. It is possible that this diet was one of the biggest reasons for the longevity and extended human life.

But why is the average human lifespan now only 80 years of age with all the advances in Science and Modern Medicine?

There is now more harmful behavior with people in the world that includes rich diets, smoking, drinking and drugs. Advanced aging appears more often with people with corrupt behavior. People now live a much more sedentary lifestyle and do not get much exercise. For these reasons, disease is more prevalent.

Another scientific explanation is that we all now suffer from the "genetic defects" of our ancestors. These gene defects were some how introduced into the gene pool and then advanced through the generations increasing our vulnerabilty to disease and aging.
